The First Mountain of Mianzhou: Reliving the Three Kingdoms Legend at Mianyang Fule Mountain
About This Attraction
The Historic Site of the "Fule Banquet"
Located just 2 kilometers east of the city center of Mianyang, Sichuan Province, Fule Mountain (Fuleshan) is a renowned scenic area that seamlessly blends natural beauty with deep historical significance. Known historically as "Dongshan" (East Mountain), it gained its current name from a famous event during the Three Kingdoms period. In 211 AD (the 16th year of the Jian'an reign of the Eastern Han Dynasty), Liu Bei, the founder of the Shu Han kingdom, entered Sichuan and was warmly welcomed by Liu Zhang, the governor of Yizhou. The two held a grand banquet on the ridge of this mountain. Overlooking the vast and prosperous land, Liu Bei exclaimed in delight, "Fu zai jin ri zhi le hu!" (Is it not a rich joy today?), giving birth to the name "Fule" (Rich and Happy). For centuries, it has been celebrated as the "First Mountain of Mianzhou" and a key site for Three Kingdoms culture enthusiasts.
A Fusion of Gardens and Antiquity
Covering an area of 1.18 square kilometers, Fule Mountain Park is designed with the elegance of classical Chinese gardens, utilizing the natural terrain to create a landscape of hills, waters, and architecture. The park is home to numerous historical relics and reconstructed ancient buildings, including the Hanzhaolie Emperor's Tomb (a memorial cenotaph), the Fule Pagoda, and the Pingyang Marquis Temple. The architecture features red walls, green tiles, winding corridors, and exquisite pavilions that evoke the grandeur of the Han and Tang dynasties. The Mianzhou Beilin (Stele Forest) creates a majestic corridor of calligraphy and stone carvings, recording the literary heritage of the region. Visitors can stroll through the Fule Garden, admiring the "Peach Garden Brotherhood" statues and immersing themselves in the stories of loyalty and strategy that defined the era.
An Urban Oasis of Flowers and Forests
Beyond its history, Fule Mountain is a vibrant urban forest park and a "green lung" for Mianyang. The mountain is covered with dense forests of ancient pine and cypress, ancient trees shading the winding paths. It is famous for its seasonal flower exhibitions, particularly the Chrysanthemum Show in late autumn, which turns the mountain into a sea of colorful blooms, attracting photographers and nature lovers from all over. In spring, the mountain comes alive with peach and pear blossoms, creating a romantic atmosphere. The Fule Pagoda, standing tall at the summit, offers a commanding view. From the top, visitors can gaze upon the confluence of the Fu River (Fujiang) and Anchang River, and enjoy a panoramic view of the bustling Mianyang cityscape, witnessing the harmonious blend of ancient history and modern development.
