Introduction: The Last Pure Land

1.Located in the northwest of Danba: County, approximately 68 kilometers from the county seat, Dangling (or Dangling Village) is often referred to as "The Last Pure Land of Western Sichuan." Unlike the culturally focused destinations of Jiaju and Zhonglu, Dangling is a destination defined by raw, untamed wilderness. It sits at the foot of the Dangling Snow Mountain and is renowned for its primitive forests, high-altitude alpine lakes, natural hot springs, and rugged hiking trails. It is a paradise for trekkers, photographers, and nature lovers seeking solitude away from commercial tourism.

2.The Crown Jewel: Hulu Hai (Gourd Lake)

3.The highlight of any trip to: Dangling is the hike to Hulu Hai (Gourd Lake). Sitting at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters, this glacial lake is named after its shape, which resembles a bottle gourd. The waters are crystal clear, acting as a mirror for the surrounding snow-capped peaks and ancient trees.

The hike to the lake is challenging, usually taking 3 to 5 hours from the village base depending on fitness levels (horses can often be rented from local villagers). The scenery along the way changes from shrublands to dense birch forests, culminating in the breathtaking expanse of the lake.

Natural Hot Springs

Dangling is famous for its natural geothermal resources. There are two main hot spring pools located about 4 kilometers from the village center, accessible via a short hike or horseback ride. Known as the "Caoke" or simply "Wild Hot Springs," these pools are rich in sulfur. Soaking in the steaming water while surrounded by snowy forests and breathing in the crisp mountain air is one of the signature experiences of the region.

The "Plane of Heaven" and Autumn Colors

While beautiful year-round, Dangling reaches its peak visual splendor in Autumn (October). The valley, often called the "Plane of Heaven" (Tiantang Gu), transforms into a vibrant palette. The extensive birch forests turn a brilliant golden yellow, contrasting sharply with the dark green conifers, the white snow peaks, and the blue sky. This period attracts serious photographers who brave the rough roads to capture the "Golden Fall" of Danba.

Travel Logistics

Dangling remains relatively undeveloped. The road from Danba county seat to Dangling is rough, often requiring a high-clearance vehicle or SUV. Accommodation in the village is basic, consisting mostly of rustic guesthouses run by local Tibetans, or camping near the lakes. There is limited electricity and cell service, adding to the sense of isolation and adventure.
