Why This Route?

This is an ideal cultural and historical route for those interested in Chinese civilization origins and ancient town preservation. The journey combines prehistoric archaeology at Yuanmou with traditional salt culture at Heijing. Best visited in spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November) when weather is mild. Winter is also pleasant as the area has a warm climate. Avoid summer rainy season (June-August). Perfect for families and history enthusiasts.

Kunming → G108 → Wuding → Yuanmou (196km) → G108 → Chuxiong (103km) → S217 → Heijing Ancient Town (66km) → S217 → G56 Expressway → Kunming (182km)

Road Conditions

The route uses national highways (G108, G320) and provincial roads with excellent paved surfaces. Roads are well-maintained and suitable for all vehicle types. No high mountain passes. Some winding sections near Heijing Ancient Town. Traffic is generally light except near Kunming and Chuxiong city centers.
