8-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Chengdu → Siguniangshan Town (200km)
Depart Chengdu early, driving northwest through the Wolong area. The journey involves ascending the Balang Mountain Pass (over 4500m), offering your first dramatic views of the Qionglai Mountains. Arrive in Siguniangshan Town (Rilong) in the afternoon. Visit Shuangqiao Valley (Double-Bridge Gully), the most accessible of the three valleys, known for its easy boardwalk trails, forests, streams, and direct views of the peaks. Acclimatize to the altitude (approx. 3200m).
Activities:
Day 2: Siguniangshan Exploration (0km drive to valley)
A full day dedicated to Changping Valley (Long-Ping Gully). This valley is longer and requires hiking or horseback riding (optional) to reach its best viewpoints. It's a paradise for landscape photographers, with ancient forests, meadows, and the iconic backdrop of the Four Sisters Mountain. Hike as far as your time and fitness allow; the scenery gets more impressive the deeper you go.

Day 4: Danba → Sertar (360km)
This is the longest and most challenging driving day, venturing onto the high plateau. The landscape transitions from valleys to vast, open grasslands. The road climbs significantly in altitude. The final approach to Sertar (Seda) is an experience in itself. Arrive in the late afternoon, check into your accommodation, and rest to acclimatize to the high altitude (around 3800-4000m).
Activities:
Day 5: Sertar Full Day (0km drive to sites)
A profound and visually stunning day. Visit the Larung Gar Buddhist Academy (Wuming Foxueyuan), one of the world's largest institutes of Tibetan Buddhism. The sea of tiny red wooden cabins housing monks and nuns covering the hillsides is an unforgettable sight. Photography requires respect and discretion. In the afternoon, you may choose to visit the nearby Tianzang Tai (Sky Burial Platform) to witness a unique aspect of local culture (observance from a distance, no photography allowed).
