1.The Karamay: River, also known as the "City River," is a monumental artificial waterway that flows through the heart of Karamay City in Xinjiang. It serves as a vital symbol of the city's transformation from a barren desert, once described as having "no grass, no water, and no birds," into a flourishing modern oasis. The river is approximately 8.51 kilometers long, with an average width of 15 to 40 meters, and covers a total surface area of 27.6 hectares. It holds a world record for its construction in an extreme desert environment where the annual evaporation rate is thirty times higher than the precipitation.

The river is the terminal section of the massive Irtysh-Karamay water diversion project, which redirects water from the Irtysh River hundreds of kilometers away to sustain the "Oil City". The project was completed in 2000, and the scenic Karamay River was officially opened to the public in 2006. The waterway is integrated into the city’s urban grid, connecting residential areas, commercial centers, and public parks, effectively reshaping the local climate and ecology.

One of the most significant landmarks along the river is the Jiulongtan (Nine Dragon Pool), located at the river's entrance. This engineering marvel features an antique-style gate with nine dragon sculptures spouting water, symbolizing the "introduction" of life to the desert. The riverbanks are further adorned with a series of architecturally unique bridges, such as the Karamay Bridge and the Friendship Bridge, which showcase various cultural and historical themes. At night, the river transforms into a "Golden Waterway" as sophisticated lighting systems illuminate the banks and reflect off the water, making it a premier destination for nighttime photography and urban leisure.
