Monument to Unity: Journeying Through the Huining Red Army Joint Forces Meeting Site
About This Attraction
1.Located in the heart of Huining: County, Baiyin City, Gansu Province, the Huining Red Army Joint Forces Meeting Site stands as a solemn monument to a defining moment in Chinese revolutionary history. Often referred to as the "City of the Meeting," Huining became the final destination of the Long March in October 1936, where the three main forces of the Red Army—the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Front Armies—successfully converged. This historic event marked the end of the arduous 25,000-li trek and the beginning of a new chapter for the Chinese revolution.
The site's most iconic structure is the Huishi Tower, formerly the ancient West Gate Tower of the city. On October 9, 1936, the 1st and 4th Front Armies met here, leading to its renaming as the "Meeting Tower". Today, the tower overlooks the modern county seat, preserving the memory of the soldiers who gathered beneath its walls. Adjacent to it stands the monumental Red Army Meeting Memorial Tower, a three-column structure rising 28.78 meters, which artistically represents the unity of the three Red Army forces.
The cultural and historical depth of the site is further anchored by the Red Army Grand Hall, originally the Wenchang Pavilion. This ancient building served as the venue for the grand celebration meeting of the three armies on October 10, 1936. Within the complex, the Red Army Meeting Memorial Hall houses thousands of precious cultural relics, documents, and historical photographs that vividly reconstruct the hardships and triumphs of the Long March. From faded military uniforms to simple weaponry used by the soldiers, every artifact tells a story of sacrifice and determination.
Beyond its role as a revolutionary sanctuary, the site is a place of profound reflection where the architecture of the Ming and Qing dynasties meets the gravity of modern history. The surrounding park and gardens offer a quiet space for visitors to appreciate the legacy of the "Huining Spirit," characterized by unity and persistence. For travelers exploring the Silk Road routes through Gansu, Huining provides an essential cultural link between the ancient past and the modern development of Northwest China.
