Gongga Mountain, known as "Minya Konka" in Tibetan, towers at 7,556 meters, earning it the title "The King of Shu Mountains" (mountains of Sichuan). The Gongga Mountain Viewing Platforms do not refer to a single location, but rather a collection of classic viewpoints scattered across Kangding, Luding, and Jiulong counties in the Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. These platforms offer the most dramatic stages for witnessing the "Sunshine on the Golden Mountain" (Ri Zhao Jin Shan)—a phenomenon where the first rays of sunrise turn the snowy peak into a towering golden pyramid. • 2.Zimei Pass (Zimei Yakou): Sitting at an altitude of approximately 4,550 meters, Zimei Pass is arguably the most famous and highly rated platform among photographers. It offers a zero-distance, frontal view of the main peak. Because it is so close, the visual impact is overwhelming. It is widely considered the best location to capture the "Sunshine on the Golden Mountain" and is often surrounded by a sea of clouds and alpine meadows.
• 3.Niubei Mountain (Niubei Shan): Located at 3,660 meters, Niubei Mountain is known as the "King of Cloud Seas". It features a 360-degree viewing platform that provides a panoramic view of the Gongga peaks rising above a rolling ocean of clouds. It is also a premier spot for astrophotography, offering crystal-clear views of the Milky Way and the "Buddha's Light" phenomenon.
• 4.Gaoersi Mountain: This platform is accessible via highway and overlooks the southwestern slope of Gongga. It features a glass viewing deck that adds a thrill to the experience. It is particularly noted for its stunning sunset views (Golden Sunset) and is considered safer and more family-friendly compared to the rugged Zimei Pass.
• 5.Lenggacuo and Quanhua Beach: For those willing to hike, Lenggacuo offers the famous reflection of the snow mountain in a tranquil alpine lake. Nearby Quanhua Beach features calcified multi-colored pools, similar to Huanglong, providing a colorful foreground to the stark white peaks.

History and Cultural Significance

The allure of these platforms extends beyond geology; they are windows into Tibetan culture. In Tibetan, "Gongga" means "the highest snow mountain". Historically, the region was a stronghold on the Tea Horse Road. Early Western explorers like Joseph Rock documented the majesty of these peaks, and in 1957, the Chinese mountaineering team cemented its status as the "King of Shu Mountains" with a historic ascent.

Culturally, the mountain is sacred. It is believed to be protected by the warrior King Gesar. Local Khampa Tibetans revere the mountain, often circumambulating it to pray for blessings. The belief is so strong that locals avoid calling the mountain by its direct name to show respect.
